Sharing Thoughts 21.04.2025
A prime headline here over recent days has been the situation with Iran. Apparently, Israel had intended to attack their nuclear facilities next month, but this has been put on hold by president Trump. This information was leaked to the New York Times and has since been confirmed by various reliable sources. It seems president Trump prefers instead to reach a diplomatic solution. Sadly, given the fact that Iran’s proxies have been severely weakened, it has lost its foothold in Syria and its air defences have been rendered largely useless, it seems that a tremendous opportunity is being wasted. Certainly, it does appear to be extremely naïve to expect a regime that has repeatedly lied over the course of many years, to suddenly start negotiating in good faith. Of course, over time we can expect to see how these negotiations (a second round concluding last Saturday) turn out.Â
The situation in Syria will probably deteriorate at some point owing to Turkey’s strong influence in the area. Nevertheless, the IDF has created a buffer zone to the east of the Golan Heights, which is at least a major obstacle for any planning terrorist infiltrations.
Egypt is another concern owing to its vast military build-up in the Sinai. This build-up (a blatant violation of the peace treaty with Israel) is certainly not something new, although it has over the years been largely ignored by the Israeli media. Thankfully however, over past months the issue has received more coverage. Egypt like Turkey has a very strong military, and it is logical to assume that sooner or later they will both come against Israel. Obviously, in light of these factors, and together with the possibility of a bad deal being made with Iran, a high degree of concern among Israel’s military and political leaders is understandable.
Please pray:
- That the Lord intervene in regard to the negotiations with Iran. Do cry out that in judgement (that we deserve) He would remember mercy.
- That if He sees fit the door of opportunity would open for Iran’s nuclear facilities to be destroyed.
- That the ongoing hatred and court hearings against Netanyahu would finish.
- That the divisiveness amongst Israelis (much of it owing to the hostage issue which has been tearing Israelis apart) would dissipate, and a desire to unite in the face of so many challenges would start to emanate.
- That the hostage issue would be satisfactorily resolved. Ideally a miraculous intervention would be awesome, but would the Lord get the glory?
- That Israel’s leaders would have much wisdom, insight, unity and courage to face the days ahead.
- That as antisemitism increases many Jews would make Aliyah and that the Lord would enable Israel to absorb them.
- That many in these days would seek the Lord with all of their hearts until they find Him.
- That the Lord continue to forward His purposes regarding the Land, and particularly Judea and Samaria. Trump’s intention to relocate the population of Gaza is good, but obviously easier said than done. Is anything too hard for the Lord?      Â
As always, much more could be covered, but time and space does not allow.
Blessings in His wonderful Name,
Andrew Lessey
