Christians United for Israel (CUFI) has delivered an urgent petition to the UK Foreign Office, warning the government against recognising a Palestinian state.
The petition, titled “No State for Jew Hate,” has gathered strong support from Christians and others across the UK who believe that recognition of a Palestinian state at this time would be both dangerous and deeply wrong.
CUFI’s statement is direct and uncompromising:
“We, the undersigned, strongly oppose any move by the UK government to recognise a Palestinian state. Such recognition would reward terrorism, embolden extremism, undermine Israel’s security, and place Britain in opposition to the Word of God.”
A Time of Political Pressure
The petition comes at a moment of heightened debate in British politics. Both the current government and opposition have signalled support for recognising ‘Palestinian statehood’, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has even gone as far as to issue an ultimatum that his government would recognise a Palestinian state.
At Prayer for Israel, we recently addressed this growing pressure in our podcast. In it, we warn that recognition of a Palestinian state under present conditions would not bring peace but would instead embolden terror and lead to greater instability and also underpin the falsehoods behind the claims that he believes makes this an acceptable outcome.
Why CUFI’s Petition Matters
CUFI’s petition provides a clear reminder that the call for ‘Palestinian statehood’ cannot be separated from the reality on the ground:
- Antisemitism is mainstream: CUFI highlights that both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority glorify terrorism, reward murderers, and indoctrinate hatred against Jews from a young age.
- History repeats itself: Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 was followed not by peace but by Hamas’s takeover, rocket fire, and terror tunnels. CUFI warns: “A sovereign Palestinian state would not end this cycle of violence, it would escalate it.”
- Biblical truth: CUFI grounds its appeal in Scripture, citing God’s covenant with Israel and His warning against dividing the land: “I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces…” (Zechariah 12:3).
By framing the issue both politically and biblically, CUFI underscores the urgency for Britain not to take a path that would reward violence, undermine Israel, and contradict God’s Word.
A Biblical and Moral Stand
CUFI also stresses that recognising a Palestinian state in the wake of the October 7th massacre, the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, would represent a moral collapse:
“In the aftermath of such unimaginable brutality, the international community proposes to reward Israel’s enemies with a state. This is not diplomacy. It is moral bankruptcy.”
This echoes the broader concern that Western nations, in their rush to secure diplomatic solutions, risk ignoring the biblical and moral foundations that have historically underpinned their policies.
Our Response
We at Prayer for Israel stand fully alongside CUFI in this petition. Britain is at a crossroads: will it align itself with biblical truth and stand with Israel, or will it place itself in opposition to God’s purposes?
This is more than a political issue; it is a spiritual one. God’s covenant with the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob remains unbroken. To divide the land is to stand against His Word.
A Call to Prayer
As CUFI delivers this petition to the Foreign Office, let us unite in prayer:
- That the petition would be received seriously and weigh heavily on the consciences of government officials.
- That Britain would resist international pressure and instead align with God’s Word concerning Israel.
- That the Church in the UK would boldly speak out for truth and refuse to be silent in the face of growing hostility towards Israel.
- That peace would come not through political manoeuvring but through the Prince of Peace, Yeshua, being revealed to both Jew and Arab alike.
