During a recent appearance in London, US President Donald Trump stood alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and offered a firm statement on Israel. Referring to Starmer’s support for the recognition of a Palestinian state, Trump declared:
“I don’t agree with him on recognising a Palestinian state. We mustn’t forget October 7.”
Trump’s reminder points us back to the horrific attacks of 7 October, when Hamas terrorists carried out unspeakable violence against the people of Israel. For many, that day underscored not only the vulnerability of Israel but also the growing tide of hostility she faces from much of the world. Especially with Prime Minister Keir Starmer wanting a Palestinian State.
Why this matters for Christians
As believers, we see God’s hand and promises woven through the history of the Jewish people. Scripture reminds us:
- “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse” (Genesis 12:3).
- “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee” (Psalm 122:6).
When political leaders debate statehood, borders, and peace agreements, Christians are called to remember that the land of Israel is not ultimately decided by human parliaments but belongs to the Lord. Recognition of a Palestinian state without addressing the root issues of terrorism, violence, and hatred risks rewarding those who seek Israel’s destruction rather than working for true peace.
How we can pray
Rather than responding with fear or frustration, we are called to intercede. Here are some ways we can pray:
- For Israel’s protection – that God would shield her people from terror and violence, and bring comfort to those still grieving from October 7.
- For wisdom among leaders – both in Israel and in the nations, that decisions would not be driven by politics alone but by justice and truth.
- For the UK and US – that their governments would continue to stand with Israel, resisting pressure to compromise her security.
- For true peace – that hearts would be changed, and that Jews and Arabs alike would encounter the Prince of Peace, Yeshua the Messiah.
