Estimates indicate that one in five pregnancies in Israel ends in abortion. Despite the government’s funding for approximately 20,000 abortions annually, an equal or greater number are performed privately. Since 1948, more babies have been aborted in Israel than the number of children who died in the Holocaust. Although the nation holds a deeply rooted respect for life, Israel is one of the few countries where it is legal to abort a baby up until birth.
