As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, political leaders and global media outlets churn headlines filled with speculation, accusation, and strategic spin. One such controversy surrounds former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent visit to the region, noticeably skipping Israel. Many Israelis and observers are left questioning: has Trump abandoned his previous strong support for the Jewish state?
According to Israeli media and several international news outlets, Trump’s omission has been framed as a betrayal. Claims have surfaced that he may recognise a Palestinian state, stoking much confusion. However, officials like former Arkansas Governor and Trump ally Mike Huckabee have strongly dismissed these reports as media fabrication. The claim, based on anonymous sources, is likely more political pressure than prophetic fulfilment. Yet even in this swirl of uncertainty, a deeper truth emerges, not about one man, but about God’s sovereign hand over history.
A Prophetic Reminder: Political Peace Is Temporary
The world constantly looks for saviours in suits. From Camp David to the Abraham Accords, man has tried repeatedly to solve the “Middle East problem.” But Scripture is clear: true and lasting peace will not come through politics. It will come through the Prince of Peace.
“For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.” Jeremiah 6:14
Every attempt at peace apart from Christ is temporary. The agreements may quiet the storm for a season, but they cannot address the root issue, man’s rebellion against God. Even Trump’s notable achievements regarding Israel, recognising Jerusalem as its capital, moving the U.S. embassy, and fostering regional normalisation, though historically significant do not fulfil biblical peace. They are but shadows of what only Jesus will accomplish at His return.
The Nations Will Gather. But Not in Unity.
The world stage is being prepared. According to Zechariah, the nations will eventually gather against Jerusalem, not in celebration, but in conflict.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples… I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces…” Zechariah 12:2–3
Whether Trump’s actions are calculated strategy or political missteps, the international obsession with Jerusalem is prophetic. The city remains the geopolitical and spiritual epicentre of the world’s shaking. The disputes over land, recognition, embassies, and statehood are not just political, they are spiritual. Behind every negotiation lies an ancient conflict.
God’s Covenant with Israel Remains
As media narratives attempt to shape perceptions, we are reminded of the unshakable truth: God is not swayed by press briefings or presidential visits. His covenant with Israel stands, regardless of popular opinion or political alignment.
“For the LORD has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His special treasure.” Psalm 135:4
“I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” says the LORD your God. Amos 9:15
From the Babylonian exile to the modern State of Israel, history proves that God’s promises are not forgotten. Even now, amid criticism, protests, and the horror of October 7th’s massacre, Israel stands. Why? Because God is faithful. He keeps covenant, even when the world does not.
The Real Hope: The Return of Christ
Perhaps some hoped Trump would be a Cyrus-like figure for Israel. Perhaps he was for a time. But no man, no policy, no treaty will usher in the true peace that Scripture promises.
“And He will judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares… Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4
This vision of lasting peace is not fantasy it is a future reality. But it hinges on the return of Jesus, not the decisions of global leaders. Until then, believers must be watchful, prayerful, and grounded in God’s Word not the headlines.
Conclusion: Trust in the King, Not the Kingmaker
It’s easy to be swept up in speculation: “Has Trump betrayed Israel?” “Will a new leader arise to bring peace?” But these questions distract from the real issue. No human ruler holds the keys to Jerusalem’s future. God alone does.
So while the world argues and nations manoeuvre, we who trust in the Lord look higher. We declare what the prophets saw: a day is coming when the Messiah will reign from Jerusalem, and His peace will have no end.
Until then, we pray for Israel, speak truth, and wait with hope, not for a politician, but for a King.
“Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” Revelation 22:20
