Prayer for Israel

Israel – The missing blessing for the Church!

At my Church recently, my pastor mentioned me in his sermon, saying, “If you want to know more about the salvation of the Jewish people, speak to David – he’ll tell you all about it.”

I was truly touched that my Pastor thought to highlight me and the salvation of the Jewish people in such a public way, knowing my work at Prayer for Israel! However, one thing struck me: the congregation shouldn’t need to come to me to ask questions about Israel – These truths are right there in their Bibles!

I don’t mean to come across as presumptuous, but the reality is, it’s that simple. God has made these promises clear throughout Scripture – The importance of Israel and its role in God’s redemptive plan is laid out for us from Genesis to Revelation.

I pray that Christians – whether they are on the fence, actively against, or simply unaware of the importance of Israel – open their Bibles and recognise that God’s promises are everlasting. As it says in Jeremiah 31:35-36:

“This is what the Lord says: He who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the Lord Almighty is His name: ‘Only if these decrees vanish from My sight,’ declares the Lord, ‘will Israel ever cease being a nation before Me.’”

Jeremiah 31 reminds us that God’s promises to Israel are as sure as the very creation He made. Just as the sun, moon, and stars continue to shine, so too will Israel endure as a nation before God. God is faithful, and His promises to Israel will never be broken. This truth is foundational to our understanding of God’s character. When we see the fulfillment of God’s promises to Israel, we are reminded that the same God who made these promises is the one who keeps His word to us.

Not only is it a blessing to witness the promises of Israel unfold in prophecy right before our eyes, but understanding Israel’s importance also allows me to know God’s character more deeply. As I reflect on the faithfulness of God to Israel, it stirs my heart to trust Him more fully. Knowing that He is a God who keeps His promises, no matter the circumstances, fills me with joy and confidence in His unchanging nature. It is a comfort to know that the God of Israel is the same God who is at work in our lives today.

My prayer for my Church congregation is that they may grasp the importance of Israel. I’m sure many of you have had similar experiences in your Churches, where Israel tends to be downplayed, perhaps seen as too political or something that could upset people.

But that is the uphill battle we face. Israel isn’t a “mystery”; it’s throughout the Bible. From the promises made to Abraham in Genesis to the prophecies of the Messiah in the Old Testament, Israel plays a central role in God’s plan of redemption. We can’t afford to ignore it. Standing for Israel isn’t a political statement; it’s a spiritual one, and one that honours God.

What can we do?

Let’s pray for our churches – both the congregations and, especially, their leaders! Imagine the excitement that would stir in the hearts of believers as they witness the promises made to Israel being fulfilled. A church full of believers fervently praying over the needs of Israel – what a powerful sight to see!

This is the challenge we face at Prayer for Israel: inspiring the Church to recognise the significance of Israel and to pray for the land and its people. As they do, they will be blessed in return!

Genesis 12:3

I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Let’s pray!
